Christchurch, lasi night. At Kaiapoi to-day Carl Tritt was committed for trial on a charge of manslaughter of his wife. Ttio medical evidence wa- to the effect that the bruises on the bodv were such as would he caused by blows from it, strap, and that death was duo to internal in juries which could have Deen caused by a hick or possibly by the woman lalliug on some projecting substance.
Two sons of accused gave evidence as to their father’s ill-treatment of their stepmother. They stated that he had beaten her with a heavy piece of leather, a kiek-ing-strup, and that ho had struck her with his hand, knocking her down, the woman falling against a fonder. Both stated that their father told them to say that he had not beaten his wife with the kicking strap, but*with- a strap he wore round his waist.
The police, after a search for the strap, found it between the lining and outer wall of the house.
