Prince Chun’s Cunning.
Berlin, Sept. PI. When the Chinese envoy, Prince Chun, left Base! on receiving news that the Kaiser would receive him, he did not pay his bill at his hotel, but offered the proprietor several fine jewels as security. The proprietor thought to bluff him into depositing more valuables, but Chun shrewdly said : “ You not only charge me ten times your ordinary rate, but you have also got an advertisement out of my visit such as you can never hope to equal.'’ The Chinese Embassy here is now contesting the hotel bill and the proprietor threatens to sell the jewels.
