Exciting Affair.
Passengers who made the trip from London to Ostend recently in the wellknown pleasure steamer Marguerite were greatly alarmed by an incident that occurred in the river just before the great boat reached her destination on the return journey. It was nearly seven o'clock at night, and the sky was clear when the Marguerite, making her way up the Lower Hope, crashed into a sailing barge off Ovens Buoy. Great excitement prevailed amongst the hundreds on board. The Marguerite apparently went right over the barge, which was cut through and went down immediately. The captain and mate of the barge (according to the Central News) are both missing, and it is presumed that they are drowned. The Marguerite herself sustained only slight injuries, but two of her floats were damaged, and she was towed into Tilbury, "where her passengere were landed two' hours later than the usual time.
