A DROWNING CASE,
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Christchurch, last night. A young woman named Annie Rankin, 21 years of age, who has been staying with her brother-in-law at Charteris Bay, was found drowned there this afternoon." ATLANTIC STEAAIEES CHARTERED. The Government Resident Agent at ’Frisco has written to the Secretary of Post Offices, stating that it is reported that tho White Star Company has chartered the Atlantic steamers Britannic and Germanic to the Canadian-Pacific Railroad Company for the Australian line. Tho vessels are rated as 17-kuot boats, and it is understood that they have no difficulty in maintaining that speed. ANGLICAN SYNOD. The Anglican Synod passed a motion requesting that the President should make arrangements for better organisation for lay readers. A motion was passed ex- { pressing regret at the death of the late j Queen. The opinion was expressed that ! training in science and practical educa- j tion should form an essential preparation j of the clergy. |
