SIR HECTOR MACDONALD.
HEARTILY CHEERED EVERYWHERE.
BANQUETTE!) UNTIL TWO O’CLOCK THIS MORNING
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Invercargill, last night
Sir Hector Macdonald has had a trying day in Invercargill, the people’s only complaint being that they could not see enough of him. Large numbers of the Highland people came in from the country, and on every appearance in public the General was heartily cheered. This evening a reception was arranged, and many were introduced to Sir Hector, whose quiet manly demeanor and patient courtesy in a heavy ordeal, were fully appreciated. A banquet, which followed, is now in progress. There is a large gathering. The toast-list is inordinately long, and it looks as if tho function will not terminate till 2 a.in. to-morrow. The General will visit the town schools, and it is probable that ho will after all visit Lake Wakatipu before going North.
