ENEMY DEFEATED AT ALL POINTS. : NEW ZEALANDERS ALWAYS EMPLOYED FOR HAZARDOUS DUTIES. [By Telegraph—Press Association.] Wellington, last night. Mr Seddon has received the following cablegram from Colonel Porter, commanding the Seventh Contingent :—" Engaged Botha's force on the fourth, fifth, and sixth of October. Already reported casualties; wounded doing well. The battle on the sixth lasted eight hours. The enemy was 2000 strong, but were defeated at all points. New Zealanders charged and captured the first position, au important hill on the enemy’s right Hank, and held it under an exceedingly heavy tire, concentrated from the front and Hanks. New Zealanders were first in action, their courage and reliance being highly estimated. They are consequently always employed to carry out the most hazardous duties. The contingent’s casualties were two killed and seven wounded. The rest are well.”
