Legislative Council

I By Telegraph—Press Association.) Wellington, last night. The Council met at 2.00p.m. The Shops and Shop Assistant Acts Amendment Bill was committed, and a new clause proposing to establish a chemists’ rota of hours of attendance negatived. I The Bill was put through the final Thc'Uabbit Nuisance Act Amendment Bill and Miners' Plights Fee Deduction Bill passed through Committee without amendment, and read a third time and passed. The Council rose at J.. 70.

House of Representatives

The House met at 2.:J0 p.m. The vote for South African contingents was agreed to on the voices. Miscellaneous services, .IMROSS.

In reply to questions, Mr Seddon said it was the intention of the Government to have future meetings of the New Zealand Hide Association held under the- direct supervision of the Defence Department. He I Mr Seddon ) said he intended to exercise discretion in regard to allowances to he granted to relatives of deceased members of New Zealand Contingents. Of course applicants must show there was necessity for assistance.

The vote for miscellaneous services was agreed to, and the total vote for the Defence Department passed on the voices. The House rose at Aid p.m.

EVENING SITTING

The House resumed at 7JJU.

On the vote for working of railways, Mr Ward said iie intended to bring down a Railway Servants Classification Bill and Superannuation Bill next day. hut did not expect to gel the latter pa-.sod this session. The Classification Bill would involve an increase of Pns.OJO in salaries over the whole colony, blit it would do away with many anomalies that existed at present. The vote was passed unaltered. The votes for public and school buildings and police departm .nt passed unaltered, and practically without discussion.
