Salvation Army.
SELF-DENIAL WEEK
We have been requested to again draw attention to the fact that the Salvation Army's Self-Denial week is being held from October the 19th to the 25th. The public are by this time well acquainted with the purposes which actuate the effort, and also with the splendid success of past appeals. Past years have reaped results which would surprise any but those who are informed of the devoted toil and hard work of the Salvationists. These, results, we take it, are also the best evidence of the public regard for the splendid work of the „Army. The Salvation Army is a rapidly developing movement, and every financial success is only taken as the opportunity for pushing on its numerous agencies ror the blessing of mankind. In addition to the numerous claims of its Foreign Missionary Work—absorbing a considerable portion of the Self-Denial money—we are pleased to know that by far the greater proportion of the money remains in this country to assist in maintaining and extending local agencies. The Salvation Army is doing splendid work in these young lands, where, we are sorry to admit, the need for such as Prison-Gate Homea, Women's Rescue Homes, Maternity Homes, Shelters for Old Men and Women. Homes for Children aud other institutions, exists to an alarming extent,. While not rejoicing in the need, the Army is courageously attacking the evils, and their self-denying efforts claim the hearty sympathy of all right-thinking people.
