Three thousand Bulgarian troops are trying to rescue Miss Stone. New York. Oct. 9. Twelve thousand pounds towards the ransom of Miss Stone has been subscribed in America.

The following particulars arc given in a Washington despatch; The State Department has received information from the United States legation at Constantinople reporting that brigands captured | Miss Stone, an Amoricau missionary, who i was travelling with a lady companion in the village of Salouiea. The department adds that the matter has received the immediate aud earnest attention of Minister Leishmann. Tint American Board of Foreign Missions has received a cable message from Rev. J. H. House, one of the missionaries at Salouiea, in Macedonia, saying : “ Brigands took Miss Stone and companion between Bankso and Djoumania.” These places are situated about j IUU miles north-east of Salouiea, in a country long familiar to the missionaries lof the American Board. Miss Ellen 11. j Stone is one of the tried missionaries of j the American Board, having been in this mission since IS7B. It lias been a part of her duty to tour among the pcoplo with a Bible woman as attendant. Missionaries now in Boston from Bulgaria are confident that no ill-treatment will bo given these ladies, but think it is simply a ease in which ransom is sought for by I robbers.
