The Hospital Board to-day, as a way out of the difficulty caused by a difference with the honorary visiting staff to the hospital, appointed a qualified resident assistant at XlOOayear as an experiment. Dunedin, last night. Considerable interest is being taken in the election of the first Drainage Board for Dunedin and suburbs. Twenty-two candidates have been nominated. New Plymouth, last night. in the Supreme'Court this morning the case of Wright v. Tompsitt, claim A'fUU for bodily harm, was called on. Counsel intimated that a settlement had been arrived at, plaintiff being awarded X 12.3, with costs on the lowest scale. In the Divorce Court a decree nisi, to be made absolute in three months, was made in tlte case of Seorge Williams v. Jane Williams and A. E. Lake (corespondent). Ashburton, last night. A conference of delegates from the branches of the Farmers' Union in Canterbury opened here at two o'clock this afternoon. Thirty delegates were present. Mr Leadley was elected chairman. The proceedings are expected to occupy two days.
