Weave pleased to hear that Mr J. W. Whim-ay has so far recovered from his recent indisposition as to be able to appear in town. Mr E. Teat returned from Melbourne this morning.
We regret to hear that Mr James Sealey, of Gisborne, who recently underwent an operation to his eyes at Dunedin, is completely losing his sight. Surgeon-Captain DeLislc was entertained by the Ahuriri .Mounted Riflc-s at Napier on Friday evening last, prior to his departure for England. Captain Bemech, who we are pleased to learn has recovered from his long iliness, comes in charge of the Tc Anau this
morning. Our Wellington special correspondent wired last evening : —Sergeant A. Dungan, of the Seventh Contingent, reported to have been killed in the action at Gelnk Nek, was formerly a smart young journalist on tiie Wellington Evening Press, now defunct. Dungan was an enthusiast in all branches of sport, and wrote entertainingly on football topics. He lias a widowed mother living in. Christchurch.
