At tiie back Kahuwai began to tiro, and the top-weights improved their places, and ISattleaxe could Oe seen coining through fast. Kahmvai led into the straight, but this was the mare's last effort, as she cried enough, and Palaver, Sirius, and Battleuxc simultaneously tlattered backers. Palaver then drew out. and about a furlong from home had a length's lead. Here Hattleaxe came with a great run. with Sirius close on his quarters, and a splendid finish resulted in j Palaver getting homo by just about half a length, Battleaxe and Sirius being locked' together, and a dead beat was declared for second place.
