The Northern Bowling Association have amended and confirmed the Laws of the Game. The most material alterations are in Buies NV. and XVI., dealing with Jack burned and burned bowls. To these matters players should pay strict attention, as the fact of (according to the strict reading of the rule), merely placing your hand on a bowl “ in play ” to see to whom it belongs, is sufficient to burn it. Another very reasonable recommendation is that the limits of the rinks always be defined by stretching cotton from rink peg to rink peg in order to properly define the boundarv.
A movement is afoot for the establishment in this colony of an association for the prevention of the spread of consumption, on the lines of the English National Association for the Prevention of Tuberculosis. The system will probably be to have headquarters in one of the centres, and branches in other parts of the colony. The function of the association, which has the approval of the Medical Association, is to educate the people to take proper precautions against the spead of the dread maladv.
