Dr. and Mrs Craig left for the South last evening. Bishop Lenihan has been suffering from a severe attack of influenza lately, but has now almost recovered.

Mr 11. T. Jones, of the Gisborne Times, left for Auckland by the Moura yesterday. Captain Nieol, formerly chief officer of the s.s. Aotea, is now in command of the steamer Eangatira, which arrived in Auckland on Monday.

Mr G. 11. Ambridge, manager of the New Zealand Clothing Company, returned from Dunedin yesterday, MrTriggs, who has been relieving at Gisborne, left Dy the Zealandio last evening.

A Press Association wire from Oainaru states that J. Maitland Jones has bcc-n appointed manager and secretary of the newly-formed Farmers’ Co-operative Association.

The following officers have been elected by the Gisborne Lawn Tennis Club for the ensuing year :—President, Dr. Craig ; Vice-Presidents. Messrs E. Murphy, H. W. Watson, Jus. Macfarlane, E. IT. Some Hastings sporting friends have purchased a solid silver afternoon tea set, to present to Miss Caulton, in view of her departure for England and approaching marriage to Mr J. Hickey, trainer to Mr Spencer Golian. The set is of the time of Charles 1., and is a beautiful specimen of the silversmith’s art. It is intended that this piece of plate will be presented at the same time that tho Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club hand to Miss Caulton the handsome silver salver given by the Club.
