AVONDALE MEETING

Auckland, last night. The Avondale Jockey Club’s Spring Meeting of three days was brought to a close yesterday afternoon, when the weather was overcast but remained fine, and the attendance was satisfactory. The racing was good, and the sum of £9004 was passed through the totalisators. The following are the results ; Maiden Hurdles, 14- miles.

Barr's Hinemoa, 10.0, Neville ... 1 Firefly, 10.0 2 Lightning, 10.6 ... ... ... 3 Also started : Chancellor 11. 11.7, La Gloria 10.13, Ballinger 10.5, Clyde 9.12, Tuirne 9.9, Na Diehumchurch 9.0, Puriri 9.0, Puffing Billy 9.0. Hinemoa was early in the lead, and after making the running practically all the way, she won by two lengths from Firefly, who started second favorite. La Gloria, who was favorite, broke a blood vessel and was pulled up when little better than half the distance had been run. Time, 2.57. Divs., £2O 7s and 18s. Third Hack Handicap, 5 furlongs. E. Emmerson’s Sparkling Water, 8.7, W. Satman... ... ... ••• 1 Creasy, 7.4 (including 41bs over) ... 2 La Polish, 7.8 ■_ ••• 3 Also started ; Rocket 8.10, Nereid 7.5, Millie 7.6, Capford 6.7, Evert 6.7, Amhantas 6.7. Sparkling Water, who was galloping before the others commenced, never left the issue in doubt, and she won by nearly three lengths from Cressy. Time, 1.6. Divs., £1 18s and £2 16s. Welter Handicap, 6 furlongs.
J. Merry’s Winsome, 8.3, Price ... 1 Blaircarrig, 8.3 ... ... ... ... 2 Golden Rose, 8.6 ... ... ... 3 Also started : Tukapa 10.0, Maroon and Gold 8.10, Sly Miss 8.6, Cavalry 8.5, Tiki 8.1, Millie 8.2, Lance Corporal 8.0, Khama 8.0, The Don 8.0. Sly Miss took command before many strides had been left behind, and she was the first into the straight, where Winsome ran up, and beating oil the opposition, she won with the greatest of case by just on three lengths from Blaircarrig. Time, 1.184. Divs., £1 18s and £2 9s. Second Steeplechase, three miles. A. Double's Sudden, 10.9, owner ... 1 Voltiguer II ... ... ... ... 2 Dingo, 10.12 3 Also started:Tarragon 10.0,Marine 9.7, Riot 9.7. The best part of a mile from home Sudden and Voltigeur ran into the lead, and the former, though gamely challenged by the old grey, had no difficulty in holding his own and winning by three lengths. Marine fell, and Tarragon was the one to fill fourth place. Time 6.20. Divs., £2 17s and 15s. Grandstand Handicap, 1 mile.
Mrs J. Bonnard's Val Rosa, 9.4, Gallagher 1 Winsome, 6.7 ... ... ... ... 2 Regalia 11., 7.4 ... ... ... ... 3 Also started: St Ursula 9.-1, St Olga 8.3, Voice 7.0.
St Olga made the running until well into the straight, where the field bunched up, and Val Rosa coming out at the lawn rails, he won comfortably by a couple of lengths. Time 1.-13. Divs., £1 14s and £2 10s. Electric Handicap, 4 furlongs. R. and R. Duder’s Takapuna, 9.6, Bashford ... ... ... ... 1 Delia Rose, 7.0 ... ... ... ... 2 Despatch, 7.5 ... ... ... ... 3 Also started : Landlock 9.10, La Polish 8.5, Rosiphelo 8.2, Drudgo 7.2, Lady Dash
The field was bunched until they reached the home turn, where Takapuna, who had been lying last, got an opening, and, slipping through on the inside, he got up just before reaching the main stand, and won by a length and a-half. Time 57soc. Divs.: On Takapuna, £6 9s ; on Delia Rose, £1 12s. Third Pony Handicap, 6 furlongs. 11. Friedlander’s St. Loanda, 8.7, Spcakman ... 1 First Whisper, B.IX ... ... ... 2 Lena, 8.3... ... ... ... ... 3 Also started: Pipiwhauraroa, 8.10; Heliades, 7.10. Hcliades aud First Whisper wore tho most prominent until well into the straight, where St. Luanda closed up, and malting her run from the main stand she won by a length. Time 1.19-1. Divs.: On St. Loanda, £2 12s ; on First Whisper, 16s. Publicans’ Handicap, 7 furlongs' D. Crozier's Tukapa, St. Ursula, 9.7 ... ... 2 Hespor, 0.10 ... ... 3 Also started : Balbirnio 7.4, Zealous 7.3. St. Ursula and Tukapa set the pace for the first furlong, when Zealous went to the front, and stayed there to the distance, where Tukapa again shot up, aud holding his own ho won by a length and a half. A protest was entered against Tukapa by the owner of St. Ursula, on tho grounds of inconsistent running, but it was dismissed. Time, 1.32. Divs, £2 Is stud £1 6s.
