A ROBBERY.

MAN ARRESTED ON SUSPICION,

A smart arrest was made by Detective Bishop last evening. A man named Sydney Hunter was ,l wanted” on a charge of stealing XSO from Alexander Peebles at Manaia on Thursday. The local police were informed at 9 o’clock last evening. Hunter had taken a horse and come to Wanganui. An immediate search took place, and twenty minutes after the detective was informed that Hunter had just left the stables. He ran down the street, and. overtook his man as ho was just about to cross the bridge, grabbing the reins of the horse, while he cantered alongside the buggy. A struggle ensued, but Hunter was overpowered, and, being searched, X‘so was found on him. He had also bought a horse, saddle, bridle, and cover. He was brought up at the Police Court this morning, and remanded to Ha-.vera. Hawera, Saturday. Alexander Peebles, the man from whom X'SO is alleged to have been stolen by Hunter, arrested in Wanganui, was plaintiff in an action for damages against the Nonnanby Athletic Club at the last last sitting of the District Court. Eighty pounds represented the amount of damages which had been handed over to him by his solicitors on the day of the theft.
