We have been shown by Mr Hookey, the Gisborne manager of Messrs Archibald Clark and Sons, Auckland, a sample shirt which been invented and patented by Mr Blythe, of Blythe and Co. It is just one of those simple, obvious ideas, once they are hit upon that makes people ask themselves why in the world did they not think of it. Simply stated, as the loose collar is to the shirt, so is the cuff. This is attained by makiDg the cuff with some four or five inches of calico attached to it, button on to the sleeve, which is that much shorter. Thus a shirt may he worn day after day by a suitable adjustment of tie and scarf. The life of the shirt is much prolonged, and when the cuff is worn and frayed it is simply discarded as a collar would be in similar circumstances. The advantages to professional and business men is very great, and to tourists or travellers inertimable, as with three shirts and a dozen cuffs, occupying less space than three shirts do ordinarily (as the cuffs lie flat), a man may travel the world over, so long as he keeps within reasonable reach of the laundry. As the cuffs are sold separately, it becomes an easy matter to chop off old cuffs and adapt the shirt to them. Mr Hookey informs us that they are now on the market throughout New Zealand, and may be purchased from or ordered through any outfitter or draper in the colony, and further that they have taken on and are likely to prove a great success,
