A PROTEST.
(To the Editor of the Times.) Sir,, —I beg respectfully to protest against the continuance of the letters which have been occupying the columns of the Times for the last fortnight. I allude to the absurd letters of Messrs G. H. Wilson, “Vox,” J. Peckover, 11 Hopeful,” and Co. If we wish to listen to a sermon we can attend one of tho numerous places of worship in Gisborne ; should we desire to peruse a work on religion we can purchase or hire books written by the most eminent writers of the present and past generations (not being residents of Gisborne). I object to the columns of my favorite journal being blocked up with the verycrude ideas of these scribes. If they wish to air thoir knowledge of theology and misquoted scriptural texts, let them take one of the halls on hire for the whole of a day and have a thorough good set to on the subject by themselves. Mr G. Wilson set tho ball rolling with his objections to women preachers, and since then he and others have been at it every day. Mr Wilson started this week with a halfcolumn deploring the felling of a certain tree, rushing off at a tangent to the death of the late President, and ultimately must have got lost among the hedgerows and by-ways that he wrote of. for if he himself could understand what he meant to convey, I am perfectly certain no one else could make head or tail of it.—l am, etc., Anti-Hcmbug,
