By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, last night. The shipment of frozen poultry made to Durban by the Agricutural Department on behalf of various firms arrived in splendid condition, and caught a good market. The birds readily sold at 6s 7.1 d a pair, which left a good profit. The Department lias been asked for quotations for a large consignment of frozen fowls, ducks, geese, and cock turkeys, to arrive at Durban in the middle of November, but no boat is available. Arrangements are being made by the Department to send a trial shipment of eggs to South Africa by next steamer.' The Agent-General cables, dated London 14th :—“ Mutton market firm. Stocks firmly held in a few hands. Average prices to-day: Canterbury mutton, 6-Jd; North Island, il.id: Biver Plate, dkl. Trade very disappointing. Only a hand-to-mouth demand, and dull sale. Lamb, Canterbury brand, -L}d; other brands, 4Ad ; inclination to force sales of lamb. The beef market is quiet. New Zealand hinds are at 3?,d : fores, 2,\d ; stocks of New Zealand beef are light. Hemp market very lirm. The auction sales this week closed witli strong demand. Good fair Wellington, spot, £2B; November and December shipments, £26. Beports from Manila indicate that light shipments of hemp arc expected. The butter market is very firm. Canadian is at 107 s. Danish 120 s. Cheese market dull; Canadian -16 s.
