Tote Betting.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Wanganui, last night. William Ryan, charged with tote betting in connection with the Canterbury -Jockey Club’s Grand National meeting, pleaded not guilty. Mr Wilford defended him. The principal witness for the prosecution declined to give evidence as to the return he received on the winner of tho Grand National Hurdles, and as tho police could not go on, tho case was dismissed. Another charge is now being heard against Ryan for betting with an infant at the Egrnont-Wanganui Hunt Club meeting on August 23nd, 6
