Abattoirs Committee.

PROPOSAL TO BORROW £ISOO. A meeting of the Abattoirs 'Committei was held at the Council Chambers las evening. Present : His Worship thi Mayor, and Crs Kennedy and Hepburn. The Mayor suggested that the Com mittec should recommend the Council to borrow the sum of £ISOO for the purpose of erecting public abattoirs on the Wuikanae, on part of the land recently secured by the Council. The Council could take four or five acres of the land secured for a cemetery and erect suitable buildings. Cr Hepburn thought the locality a most suitable one. It was agreed that the site should be submitted to the Government for approval, and that they should also be asked to forward the Council a plan of abattoirs and information with regard to plant, at a total cost of £ISOO, exclusive of land. The recommendations of the Committee will come before the meeting of the Council on Tuesday next.
