House of Representatives.
The House met at 2.30 p.m. In reply to a question, Mr Seddon said that the Government offered no objection to Colonel l’enton taking charge of the Sixth Contingent. On the motion of Mr Seddon a resolu-
tion was unanimously agreed to. expressing the detestation and horror of the House at tho diabolical, wicked, and unprovoked attempt on tho iife of President McKinley, and extending to Mrs McKinley and tho American nation its warm and sincere sympathy.
Mr Seddon moved that tho resolution of tho House fixing morning sittings be rescinded. Mr Graham moved an addition to the motion, “That House shall not sit after midnight.’’ The debate was interrupted by the 5.30 adjournment.
EVENING SITTING
The House resumed at 7.30 p.m,
Mr Graham’s amendment that the House shall not sit after midnight was negatived by 32 to 20, and .the Premier's motion abolishing the morning sitting was carried by 35 to 23. The financial debate was resumed, and carried on by Messrs Ji. Thompson and Kuihuu.
