New Zealand Veterans.
By Telegraph—l’ress Association. Wellington, last night. The Governor presided this morning over a conference of veterans of tho colony held to consider the question of forming a New Zealand Association of Veterans, with Wellington as the centre. In his opening Speech His Excellency said that he at one time thought Auckland the best place for tho central body, but had found tho business was not well managed there, and therefore thought there should bo a central Association, with officers in sympathy with the veterans. It was resolved that tho title of the Association should bo tho New Zealand Association of His Majesty's Veterans, and that it bo open to all members of the Imperial forces who havo received Imperial decorations, or who havo completed seven years’ service, also to all members of colonial forces who wore in active service prior to 1892.
Lord lianfurly was elected rrosidont, and the following vice-presidents were nominated: Captain MoKellar Wix (Wellington), Commander Easthor (Dunedin), Captain Webster (New Plymouth), C. Dixon (Masterton), T. 1). Cummins (Wanganui), Major Richardson (Napier), secrotary, Mr S. Stidolph (Wellington). Regret was expressed at the non-representation of tho Auckland Association, which wrote that it was not considered desirable at presont to bo consolidated with any other body.
The following were elected a standing committee to carry on business during tho recess Commander Horne, Lieut.Colonel Nowall, Captain Melvollarwix. The following general committee was also appointed : Wellington, Commander Ilorne and Lieut.-Colonel Newall ; Hawke's Bay, Majors Gascoigne and Garner ; Dunedin, Colonel Morris and Lieut. Callaghan ; New Plymouth, Captains A. Standish and Hamerton ; Mastertou, Captains Hewitt and P. 0. Cullen ; Wanganui, Captains Preeee and J. W. Day. At the conclusion of the meeting the delegates went to Government House and laid tho rules before the Governor. His Excellency, as President of the Association, approved of tho rules with few alterations.
