By Telegraph— Press Association—Copyright
Washington, Sept. 0.
Other advices show that Czolgosz admitted discussing beforehand with friends the shooting of the President. The day was warm, and the fact that many visitors at the reception were wiping their brows with handkerchiefs led to the fact that tho assassin carrying one in his hand passsed unnoticed. Dr McGurney thoroughly examined the patient on Sunday, and reported that there was not a single unfavorable symptom and not the slightest indication of peritonitis.
The bulletin caused general manifestation of joy in America. Tho promptness of dealing with the wound in the stomach on Friday was due to a fear that postponement would be fatal.
The examination of two friends of Czolgosz did not indicate the existence of a plot. According to the New York Herald, President McKinley, when unconscious or semi-unconscious, moans, but when conscious bravely conceals his suffering. He had not enjoyed complete health since he suffered an attack of influenza in 1809, showing at one period indications of Bright's disease. 110 remarked to his wife on her visit:
“ This is not our first battle. We have won more desperate ones. Though the conditions are critical, 1 hope to win now.”
The police are trying to trace Goodman. Her last whereabouts were at Toledo, Ohio.
The anarchists of Now Jersey are raising funds to defend Czolgosz. President McKinley spent a somewhat restless night. He slept fairly well. Ilis general condition is unchanged. A later bulletin states that the condition is more satisfactory, and untoward incidents are less probable. His temperature is at 100.
Tho secret police traced the plot to Cincinnati, where two arrests have been made. It was originally planned to kill President McKinley at the Cleveland encampment, but Czolgosz refused, owing to its nearness to his home. Goldman was seen at Buffalo on the 2nd, living near Czolgosz. She will probably be arrested.
New York, Sept. 9,
Two hundred Italian anarchists at Guinefey, Hallow, Pennsylvania, celebrated the attempted assassination. Two thousand Socialists at Chicago rejected a resolution of sympathy witn McKinley.
