Thames, last night. The local fishermen have had several meetings of late to protest against the damage done to the fish of HauraUi Gulf by trawling, also to ask the Government to remove the restrictions with regard to the meshes of nets and to reduce the minimum size of flounders to eight inches. A memorial is being prepared for presentation to Ministers.
Waihi, last night. The Arbitration Court has opened here to hear the mining dispute. The chief point of the unionists’ ease is that since the Board of Conciliation award the Waihi Company has been working men on contract almost exclusively. The union therefore ask that preference be given to unionists for contracting as well as for day labor.
Napier, last night. Special collections at tho Wesleyan Church yesterday for tho extinction of the circuit debt realised .£122.
‘Wellington, ast night. It is understood that Colonel Penton, when his term of office as Commandant expires next month, will leave for the Cape and take charge of the Sixth Contingent. Colonel Hanks has received another command, and the Sixth is temporarily under Captain Andrew. Dunedin, last night. The Hospital Trustees decline to give the Medical School representation on the trust, saying that lecturers are always sure of appointment so long as they comply with the by-laws. The trust declines to erect a morgue or maternityward.
In the Supreme Court D. 11. A. McGregor, charged with stealing a horse, saddle, and bridle, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment. Charles Gewdale and Edward Gaggs, for stealing jewellery, were sentenced to three months each. In the divorce case, Ambrose Ward v. Elizabeth Ward, upon the grounds of misconduct and drunkenness, a rule nisi was granted, to be made absolute after three months.
