FOOTBALL.
Thk usual weekly meeting of the PovertyBay Rugby Union was held last evening, when there were present Messrs Miller (in the chair), Eaton, Maude, Hawkins, Nutting, MeCredie, Caulton, Duggan, and Adair (hon. sec.). At the request of the Iluia Football Club, tho protest lodged by them against the match played by them on the 31st August being awarded to the West End Football Club was withdrawn, as was also the protest lodged by Kaiti against Huia. To deal with similar cases the following rules were put on the minutes ! to be embodied in the Union’s bye-laws at i the first general meeting;-—“That any club playing a stranger to the district, as per Rule 43, will play him at their own risk except where such club can produce a written statement (signed previous to the match} from the player to the effect that such player intends to become a bona fide resident.” “ That any player attending a school outside the Union’s radius, whoso
recognised home is within the boundaries of the uistf'"*'! Of the Union, mav on returning home for the holidays, or to settle, be passed by tiie Union to play for the district in whfch his recognised home is located, provided that ho is resident within that district for seven days previous to the match. In a case where a player visits home a second time during the season, he must again reside seven days in the district before playing a match, but does not require to be again passed by the Union.”
It was resolved that all players alreadypassed by tho Union rank as bona itae residents for the remainder of the season, The final match between Huia and West End was fixed for the 28th inst. Practice for the A and B teams will be held this evening at 7 o'clock in the Masonic sample rooms in Lowe street,
