Auckland, last night. The City Council has decided that tenders be invited for paving Queen street, the work to he done in wood, stone, or asphalt. Fiji news reports the finding at Hau Point of a galvauised-iron case containing three torpedo tubes. The contents are certainly valuable, and are not likely to have been discarded by any ship. It is believed that the case is of foreign manufacture. It has evidently drifted from the vicinity of Torres Straits.

Wairoa, last night. 11. T. -McPioberts, an old identity, aged 7b, was found dead on Wednesday. At the inquest, a verdict of death from fatty degeneration of the heart was returned. Wellington, last night. His Excellency the Governor this morning presented Captain Walker (Waikato), of the Fourth Contingent, with a Distinguished Service Order, and also with a parchment certificate sent by the King. The reports of meat and dairy produce for the last month show an increase of nearly fiO.OOOcwt in mutton, 67,000 cwt in lamb, and oOOcwt inelieesc, but a decrease of 717cvvt. in butter, as compared with the returns for August last year. The values of exports since April 61st last have been : Butter, .£188,220 ; cheese, £79,761; beef, £106,626; mutton, £421,866; lamb, £406,602.

Invercargill, last night. In the indecent assault cases at the Supreme Court, .John Hobson Hall, aged 68, was sentenced to three years ; W. J. Biehmond, aged 50, got six months ; and a youth named Frederick Jarvis was released on six months’ probation.
