DAIRY MATTERS.

(To tho Editor of the Times.)

Sia, —As the discussion on tho above subject seems to bo languishing of late, allow mo to give a few nuts to “ Weary Willie” or someone else to crack. The first is, do any co-operative companies make a failure of the business? and, if not, why does the following appear in the Taranaki Herald and Budget ol August 21th, 1901? “Waiongona.— Vickers and Stevens have received instructions from tho Liquidators of the Waiongona Co-operative Dairy Factory Company to sell by public auction, on the premises, the buildings (to be removed), factory plant, etc., in lots to suit purchasers; sale at 1.30 o’clock.” Second : A few months ago the Heretaunga co-operative dairy factory agreed to lease their factory and creameries, as it was either lease or go into liquidation, and the shareholders chose the former plan. Third : The Uewa Co-operative Dairy Factory Company have also been considering the advisability of leasing their factory and creameries, and 54 out of 125 shareholders voted in favor of leasing for a term of three years. The past season has been the best on record, aud here we have three co-operative factories that cannot pay their way. Perhaps “Weary Willie,” or “Kgo,” or some of the other Poverty Bay experts will explain. Further: Why were all the farmers fools'? I should think they must have been, and they have found out that all that glitters is not gold. Awaiting some information on the subject, —I am, etc., Deoauk.
