There is a certain young lady in Wellington who is so "proper” that she refuses even to "masli ” potatoes. Quite a large number of private hoardinghouses in the city are called " Paying guest ” establishments.
A recently discharged lady patient from a certain hospital was found to be a malingerer pure and simple. There have been some curiosities perambulating the town during the past week. They have not had the influenza. An old couple, who have been married forty-five years, separated the other day because they could not agree. Although everybody appears to be crying out about there being too much racing, few people do anything to minimise it.
Included in the plunder of one of the recent robberies was what proved to be a nicely made up package of Hansards ' The purser of a big boat that touches at Wellington was actually “ taken down ” by two confidence men quite recently. A recently-reported matrimonial misfit has ended in re-union. One of the parties came into money, and the other lovingly ■■ made it up.” According to a prominent medico a great many women here absolutely ruin their system by drinking vinegar for their complexion. The belongings of a notorious criminal, searched the other day panned out a Bible, two prayer books, a hymn book, and a host of tracts.
The merchant’s assistant who sent a prominent temperance man a bottle of beer in a parcel containing sauce has got the inevitable sack.
