HIGHLY-ESTEEMED COUNCILLOR [By Telegraph Press Association.] Napier, last night. At the meeting of the Napier Borough Council this evening Councillor G. If. Swan, who has been thirty-eight years in Napier, announced his resignation from the Council, owing to taking up his residence in Hawcra. Councillors made eulogistic reference to Councillor Swan’s services to the borough, and the very great interest ho had always taken in municipal affairs, so that during his connection with the town it had boon brought to such a highly satisfactory state as to compare favorably with any other town in tho Australasian colonies. It was rosolved to place on record tho Council's high appreciation of Councillor Swan’s services, and their esteem for him, the testimonial to tako tho form of an illuminated address. PERSONAL.
Dr DeLisle, Borough Health Officer’ has resigned that position, owing to his having received an appointment as Government Health Officer. GIFT OF BIRDS.
A gift of foreign birds and animals has been made to the Council by Mr W. R. Blythe and others, and will be placed in the Botanical Gardens, whore it is expected they will form the nucleus of a larger collection.
