DEATH OF BEN. CRISP.

[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Nelson, last night. Mr “ Ben ” Crisp, one of the oldest and best-known residents of Nelson, died last evening in his ninety-fourth year. Ho claimed to be the oldest colonist in New Zealand, having left England in 1819, and arrived in Nelson in 1842, and had lived here ever since. He was a total abstainer since 1843, and formod tho first Band of Hope in Nelson. For some fifty years, until seven years ago, he gave tho children of Nelson a treat every Queen’s Birthday. He was a trustee of the Nelson Wesleyan Church, of which ho had boon a member for 57 years. His death was caused by a fall, otherwise he would probably have completed a century.
