Hlho Premier has received the following cable mossago from Colonel Porter, commanding tho Seventh Contingent “ Orange .River Colony : Contingent's operations for three weeks from August : Constantly on the trek ; successful night marches anti attacks, floors killed, ill; wounded, many ; prisoners, do ; villus, 19 ; ammunition and goods waggons, 21 ; carts, 18 ; horses, 3000 ; mules, 10 ; oxen, 200 ; sheep, 16,000 ; forage, 50 tons. “ On August 23rd 310 Boors attacked us to recover a convoy. They wore repulsod, tho contingent resisting gallantly. There was close lighting, Tho contingent are well and cheerful.”
