THE TAIHOA POLICY.
NO ACTION YET TAKEN ABOUT NATIVE LANDS.
(Special to Times.) Wellington, last night,
As far as I can ascertain matters are still in statu quo with regard to the Tahora block appeal, and the still more important subject of the acquisition bv Government of East Coast Native lands, on which hopes hang of disposing of all future litigation. So far as Tahora is concerned no steps have been taken towards filing in the Courts any statement of facts agreed upon, and if Government is taking any action in other matters, it is working quietly, as up to the present no information lias been allowed to escape. This I do know, that Mr W. G. Foster, representative of the Bank of New Zealand, mortgagee of a considerable portion of the trust lands, has not yet been called upon to give evidence before the Cabinet as to the nature of the Bank’s transactions, and if it has any proposals to make on the suggested Government control.
