London, Aug. 28. As a result of the recent tests, the Admiralty is fitting Belleville boilers with forged bronze valves and spindles. The Shipping Federation of Great Britain is discussing the advisability of asking Mr Chamberlain to intervene to prevent assent being given to the Commonwealth Inter-State and Customs Bills, consequent on the provisions interfering with shipping. The Pacific Cable Board has appointed Mr E. H. Reynolds, ox-Diroetorof General Telegraphs in India, as General Manager.
Sydney, August 28. The authorities arc keeping a look-out to prevent a possible reappearance of the plague. A largo number of rats in all parts of the city have boon diagnosed, no trace of the plague being found.
