The Compensation for Accident Act is not the gold mine after all that employees think it is. Last week, at Dannevirke, a saw-mill hand, who had met with a severe accident while plying his vocation, sued his employer for compensation. After inspecting the scene of the accident, and hearing evidence, the Magistrate non-suited the plaintiff with costs on the ground that the mishap had occurred when plaintiff had had a free haud as to how the work should be done and as to how the appliances should be operated.—Observer. We have seen come before the Canterbury Land Board—good looking young men and women who have had matrimonial eng ge roents who were wearing engagements-rings, and they have asked for Section 15 for Maria Jones and James Hayes, and they have asked that they should be bracketed together.
