FOOTBALL.

WELLINGTON DEFEATS HAWKE’S BAY.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

Wellington, last- night. The Hawke’s Bay representative footballers were beaten here to-day by twelve points to three. The visiting forwards played a fast game throughout, but their backs were a source of weakness rather than strength. Later.—The interprovincial match between Hawke’s Bay and Wellington, played in the Athletic Park this afternoon, resulted in a win for Wellington by twelvo points (four tries) to three points (one try). The visitors have a fine team of forwards, who more than held their own with the AVollington pack, but their backs were weak, and to this weakness the home men owed their victory. Slattery, AVood, Adams and Mclntyre scored for Wellington, and Hume for Hawke’s Bay, none of the tries being converted. Tho Wellington men played very sluggishly, and appeared to be stale after their exertions against tho New South Welshmen last Saturday.

NEW SOUTH WALES V. SOUTH LAND.

(Special to Times.) Invercargill, last night. The football match between New South Wales and Southland was played to-day, and resulted in an easy victory for the local team by 16 points to nil.
