Priest Wounded by an Expelled Nun.

Ax unusual crime, according tc the Nantes correspondent of the Paris Figaro, was recently committed in the peaceful chapel of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart, in that town. The chaplain, the kbbe Fouchard, had just arrived to say mass, and before putting on his priestly vestments knelt on a perdicu, with his head buried in liis hands.

Suddenly a woman, closely veiled and dressed in black, advanced toward the sanctuary. When she had come near the Abbe she drew from under her dress a paver’s club and struck him two violent blows on the top of the head. The unfortunate priest fell to the ground without a cry, weltering in his blood. Several persons.rushed forward to aid the victim, while others seized the wouldbe murderess, who made no attempt to escape. When taken to the First Ward police station she gave her name as Marie Amosse, formerly a nun. She added that she had an intense hatred against the Abbe Fouchard because be had caused her expulsion from the community of St. Gildas.

Since leaving that convent she had been living at Niort with her family. She had gone to Nantes two days previously, and on the very morning of the crime went to the chapel at the hour of mass to take her revenge. It is not belie red that she is entirely sane. Abbe Fouchard was cared for in the convent, and there were hopes of saving his life in spite of the two terrible blows.
