Legislative Council
The Council met at 2.30. The Land for Settlements Bill has passed the final stages. Tiie Hon. Mr Walker moved the committal of the Shops and Offices Bill. Several members spoke against the retention of the bank clauses. The debate was djourned.
House of Representatives
The House met at 2.30 p.m. Tiie amendments made by the Legislative Council in the Public Health Act Amendment Bill were agreed to, with the exception of that under which certificates of exemption from vaccination can only be granted by a magistrate. The Mortgages of Land Bill was read a second time.
The House rose at 5.30. EVENING SITTING.
The House resumed at 7.30. The Hospital Nurses Registration Bill and Promissory Notes Bill were read a second time. Mr Hall-Jones moved the second reading of the Young Persons’ Protection Bill, to suppress juvenile depravity. This measure, he said, was shorn of many of the objectionable features which a former Bill of the same kind had contained. Latkr. —The second reading of the Young Persons’ Protection Bill was carried by -17 to 4. The Money Lenders’ Bill, to amend the law with respect to persons carrying on business as money lenders, was read a second time on the voices.
