An action for libel has been begun against the Observer by Licut.-Colonel Ricardo, who went to South Africa in charge of the First Queensland Contingent. Tho alleged libel is a cartoon imputing cowardice. Ricardo admitted that he had been severely reprimanded by General Hutton for the ragged condition of his men, but said the censure was made at a moment of rage, and was afterwards recalled by General Hutton.
