CLAIMS OF FOREIGN RESIDENTS.

The Commission appointed to inquire into the claims of foreign residents in South Africa for damages through tho war heard interesting evidence rebutting tho claims for hardships of certain Americans. Tho evidence showed that some of the claimants were deported in connection with tho plot against Lord Roberts, and belonged to secret societies, while others had often been in prison. Tho Chairman, on behalf of the Government, offered travelling expenses if any of theso claimants would attend the sittings of tho Commission.

Capetown, Aug. 14. The transport Harlech Castlo has sailed for Australia with time-expired troops.
