Auckland, last night. In the Supreme Court, George Fitzherbert was sentenced to five years’ hard labor for forgery and two years’ for theft, sentences to bo concurrent. Judge Conoily said accused was one of the most hardened criminals who had ever been before the Court. Adolph Reus was sentenced to four years’ hard labor for forgery and false pretences. A hotel at Hakuru, near Te Arai, was destroyed by fire last night. It was insured for D7OO in the Royal. Wellington, last night. His Excellency the Governor returned from Napier last night. Mr Justice Edwards has been confined to his house for some days by illness. The Military Board of Inquiry has concluded its investigations into tho Newtown camp scandal, and will report to the Government. A dispute referred to the Conciliation Board at the instance of tho Wellington Typographical Union has been fixed for hearing on the 26th inst. Seventy-four newspaper proprietors and master printers in the industrial district have been cited. The claim is in regard to hand compositors, for whom weekly wages of £3 os for day hands, and .£3 12s 6d for night employes, are demanded, the piece rate not to be not less than Is Id per thousand. Christchurch, last night. Charles Sutton was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment for forging this morning.
