By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, last night. Splendid weather favored the opening of the Canterbury Jockey Clubs Grand National Meeting, and there was a large attendance. The going was in first-class order. Totalisator dividends were paid on tirst and second horses, the receipts amounting to £16,395. The following wc-re the results : Hunters’ Hurdles, SOsovs ! once round and a distance. —Larboard "Watch 1, The Jester 2, Mangatira 3. All started. Won comfortably by four lengths, after leading all the way. Time, 3.11 4-5. Divs., Larboard W atch £ll Ills, The Jester 11s 6d. Maiden Hurdles, loOsovs. ; 1; miles

Iluku 1, The Hempie 2, Dartmoor 3. Derringcotte was scratched, leaving only four in, and in consequence the dividend was only paid on the first horse. Huku took the lead after passing the last fence and won by a length and a-half, Dartmoor a good third. Time, 3.23 4-5. Div., £6 13s. Winter Cup, of 300sovs ; ono mile.— Ostiak 1, Mars 2, Battle-axe 3. All started. Ostiak led throughout, and won easily by a couple of lengths. Time, 1.44 4-5. NAPIER PARK RACING CLUB.

WILL PAY OX FIILST AND SECOND HORSES.

At the annual meeting of tho Napier Park Racing Club, held to-day, the bal-ance-sheet showed a prosperous condition of affairs. Improvements to the extent of X 509 had been carried out to the club's course during tho year, whilst tho assets gave a balance over liabilities of X3OU6. It was decided to instruct the committee to arrange for the payment of totalisator dividends on the first and second horses during tho ensuing season.
