LABOR DISPUTES.

By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, last night. At the Arbitration Court the cases in which Alessrs J. Ballantync and Co. and Hallenstein Bros, were charged with a breach of the industrial agreement in the tailoring trade, were dismissed. The Union considered that the agreement mado with respect to Christchurch should apply to branches of the firm in Timaru and Ashburton, F. S. Parker and Son were fined 20s and costs in the Arbitration Court for having employed more than the prescribed number of apprentices. Tho defendants, when told they were committing a breach of the law, discharged one apprentice but re-engaged her as a piece-worker. In fining the defendant, Judge Cooper said there had been an attempt to evade the clear and plain meaning of tfco agreement.
