Action for Damages.
SOME ONE TO PAY FOR SHAME. FUL CARELESSNESS.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Ilawera, last night. In tho District Court, judgment was given in the case of Peebles v. Bates and others, a claim for damages for loss' of plaintiffs son, who was accidentally killed at sports held at Normanby last BoxingDay. Tho boy was standing near a shooting gallery, when a pellet from a pea-rifle entered his stomach. The Judgo held that defendants, the sports committee, were guilty of neglect in not making' an inquiry as to tho capability of the man in charge of tho gallery, and in not keeping supervision over the shooting, Judge Kettle held that he was bound'by the decision of Air Justice Williams in the case of Georgo v. the North Otago A. and P. Association, and gave judgment for plaintiff on tho main issue, but reserved his decision as to the amount of damages to be assessed. It is likely defendants will go to the Court of Appeal,
