AUSTRALIAN POLITICS.
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Melbourne, Aug. 8.
In the House of Representatives, Mr Barton, in moving the second reading of the Immigration Restriction Bill, said he did not believe the danger was immediate, but if steps were not taken to cope with a future influx of undesirables, industrial and moral evils would grow at an alarming rate. The Bill allowed the Government to be arbitrary if necessary, but allowed discrimination. .He intimated that another Bill would be introduced dealing with South Sea Islands labor. That such labor should be abolished he thought could be conclusively shown.
Sydney, Aug. 8. Both Houses adopted a loyal address to the Duke of Cornwall in connection with his late visit. The Assembly has passed two months’ supply, ,£230,000.
Adelaide, Aug. 8. In the Assembly Mr Price, leader of the labor party, moved a vote of want of confidence. He charged the Ministry with deserting the Liberal party and going back on household suffrage. The debate has not finished.
