HAIRDRESSERS.
BEFORE ARBITRATION COURT.
[By Telegraph—PreS3 Association.] Christchurch, last night. At the Arbitration Court to-day the Hairdressers’ qnd Tobacconists’ Union asked for £2 10s as the minimum wages ; eight hours a day, from 8.30 a.m., and until 10 p.m. on Saturdays ; apprentices to be one to four journeymen, their wages to be 5s per week, with a 5s increase each year to the fourth year, and 10s increase in the fifth year. His Honor suggested that the Court make an award setting forth a certain number of hours of labor per day, the regulation of the hours to be left to employers.
The judge’s suggestion was virtually accepted, and an award will bo given before the end of next week.
