Wairoa News.

(Times Special Correspondent.)

The annual meeting of the subscribers of the Wairoa Library took place on the 25th July. Owing to the inclemency of the weather there was was a very poor attendance. Mr R. Gardiner was voted to the chair. The annual report was read, as follows: The Trustees have much pleasure in laying before the subscribers of the Wairoa Library their report for the year ending June 3oth, 1901. During the year the Trustees have met ten times. The number of subscribers is now 53. The financial position is in a very fair way as you will see by the balance sheet. During the year 112 new volumes have been added to the Library. The Trustees have decided, on account of the unsatisfactory way orders for books have been fulfilled in Napier, to procure books in future from outside sources. By this means they trust to be able to ensure to the subscribers a certain number of books of educational value. During the year the Library has been supplied with the copies of the Hawke’s Bay Herald, Gisborne Times, Herald, and Waipawa Mail. There have also been provided for subscribers, the Review of Reviews, Windsor Magazine, London Graphic, New Zealand Graphic, Auckland Weekly News, and the Weekly London Times' The papers connected with Mr Bird’s lease are now completed. The Trustees would like to see more interest taken in the institution by its members, and would point out, that whilst members’ subscriptions remain unpaid, it is utterly impossible for the Trustees to procure new books.— John Somerville, President Wairoa Library. The balance-sheet was then read; it stands thus: Receipts, including balance from last year of £l3 7s Gd, £sl 9s 4d ; expenditure £43 2s 7d ; balance to credit £8 Gs 9d. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The secretary was authorised to acknowledge with thanks the receipt of the Hawke’s Bay Herald, Waipawa Mail, and Gisborne Times, which had been supplied gratis. The following gentlemen were then nominated to fill the ofiioe of Trustees for the ensuing year: Messrs Somerville, Sargisson, Briggs, Neill, A. R. Mackay, R. Gardiner, H. H. Carr, and the Rev. Mr Buttterfield. A ballot was taken and the following were elected : Rev. Mr Butterfield, Messrs Somerville, Neill, Briggs, Mackay, R. Gardiner, and Sargisson.
