HANDICAP MATCHES—DEFEAT OF ROBERTS. By Tolegraph-Press Association-Copyright Brisbane, Aug. 4. In tho billiard match Roberts v. Memmott, 4000 up, the former conceding 1450, Mcinruott won by 99-1. In the second match, Roberts v. Weiss, on similar terms, Weiss won by 1412.

A Sydney exchange has the following: John Roberts, the English billiard cham- • pion, had but little difficulty in winning from Fred. Weiss, the Vustralian cracky in their exhibition game of 7000 up, concluded a few days since, in which tho Australian received 2000 start. At no time during the contest did the Australian look like winning, and ho was trying all the time, too. It is said that ho hardly played as well as in tho final game in Sydney last year, but even had he dono so it is thought the result would have been the same, for the champion was quite at his best after the first half-hour.
