Fifteen started. The betting was sto I against Lowland Chief, 8 to ] Repeater. Half a mile from homo Billy Marton looked a winner, but failed to stay. Lowland Chief and Repeater led into the straight, and the former was ahead at tho last hurdle, hut blundored, leaving Repeater an easy winner by two lengths. As the winner was badly beaton last Wednesday at Epsom, the victory was received with mingled feelings. The time was 7min 2.fsoe.
Cannongato was shipped from Auckland by the s.s. Waikare on Tuesday in order to fulfil his engagements at the forthcoming C.J.C. Meeting. Tho son of Cannon was looking well and should play an important part in his different engagements should ho bo landed fit and well. There has been a fair amount of betting in Auckland during tho week on the Grand National Steeple and Hurdles. Moifaa, Cannongato and Social Pest are most in demand for the big jumps, and The Needle, The Hernpic and Haydn for the small sticks.
