MORERE NOTES.
(TIMES COKEKSrOXMJXT.) The Settlors' Association, which has boon dormant for a long time past, has awakened at last, a fact attributed to the trosty weather experienced here lately. A meeting of the above was held on 27th ,lulv in the schoolroom, but owing to the inclemency of the weather many from a distance were unable to be present. A motion to join the Farmers’ l nion was postponed till a future meeting, when a
much larger attendance is anticipated. A deputation was appointed to proceed to 'Wellington to wait on Ministers regarding Wailcokopu Harbor, the Hot Springs baths, and several other matters affecting the district. Trooper Whitehead is expected to arrive home shortly, and it is the intention of the ladies in the district to tender him a complimentary social, when I believe a souvenir will be presented to him by his many friends and admirers. Genuine regret was felt throughout the district when the news was received of the death of Trooper McKeihnie in the DunHospital from enteric fever. Had he jived to reach home a suitable reception would have been accorded him, and I atn sure his old schoolfellows will see that his memory will not be forgotten.
